Maurice Jacox - VOICE. Maurice has been a part of the Twin Cities music scene since the late 1960s as a member and lead singer with Willie and the Bees, The Butane Soul Review and The Soul Tight Committee along with several Motown tribute shows and guest appearances. He has played with Bonnie Raitt, Dr John, Otis Clay, Earl King, Willie Walker and more, and collaborated with numerous others. Among his awards: Black Musical Award, Minnesota Music Academy Jazz Musician, Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame two times and named City Pages Best Male Vocalist. Teaching philosophy: "I try to help my students sharpen their acuity to help them hear differences in pitch and intervals. Learning to sing starts with imitation, but we can't imitate sounds that we like unless we hear them accurately. I also try to find out what a student's goals are and tailor each student's lessons to fit their needs.
Solveig Mebust – VOICE. Graduate of Augsburg University, Bachelor of Music Education, and University of Minnesota, Masters (and nearly a PhD) in Historical Musicology. Music teacher in the Twin Cities since 2009, focused on helping students develop healthy vocal technique, connected breath, confidence in singing, and strong musicianship skills. A pedagogy and child development nerd. When not teaching music, Solveig owns and runs the Grand Jeté dance apparel and shoe store in Saint Paul. She believes that dance and music performance are deeply linked, and that true musicianship connects to movement as much as to the ear and mind.
